Early Morning at Convict Lake

You know it’s always good to get out to the local places just to get some time behind the camera. Staying behind the computer monitor gets old fast. Well this past weekend a couple friends decided to take a little vacation from work and came up to the sierra’s to do some shooting. It was nice getting out to the old haunts. It wasn’t so nice the storm that keeps coming through but despite the snow the clouds were great.

The first place that we went was over at Convict Lake. Just a short drive down the road, one of our favorite places to go fly fishing, when there’s no snow…. Well the snow does make for some nice contrast in black and whites so i made sure to use that while shooting. It’s real simple to shoot knowing what the end image will look like in your mind. I knew that everything i was shooting was going to be converted in post because of the elements present at the time.

The only light at the time was on the ridge behind us. It just so happened that the light kept landing on this one Jeffrey Pine tree as it
appeared and disappeared with the clouds. Obviously this would be a time when black and white wouldn’t work, the clouds have no real interest to them. However, it does show the small sliver of light that we were working with that morning, which i like.
