This past May a very important and special event occurred over our nations capitol, one that may never happen again. On May 8th, 1945 WWII in Germany ended with the German surrender. This was the day in which the actual document was signed in France. It was known afterward as Victory Europe or VE Day. Seventy years later, thanks to the help of several organizations, 52 aircraft flew over the National Mall to honor veterans of all branches. Fifteen flights of aircraft flew in formation to mark the many battles that were fought. I had the great privilege that week to photograph the event. I was hired by the Texas Flying Legends Museum to cover the whole week and then turn it into a final show piece so that others could enjoy and relive their aviation heritage. This is something that I have been working on all summer and I can now finally talk about it. It’s been one heck of an experience creating an entire book for the first time and I’m quite pleased with the results.
To give you some idea of what this trip was like, what went into it and the impact that it had, here is a short 2 minute video that sums it up. However, if you want the full story then you have to buy the book.
The book is $159.99 plus shipping. It’s a 13×11 138pg coffee table book that tells the story of our travels across a dozen states and with aircraft that literally came from all over the country. While the book includes a lot of photographs, it is not in any way a how to photography book. This book is meant to inspire, educate and be worth something to talk about with others. The book includes everything from photography, to the people, the flying that was involved and of course the veterans. Now I’m doing something very special with this book in the hopes that it will inspire and help others. For every book that is sold 1/3 of the profits are going to the Texas Flying Legends Museum and another 1/3 is going to the Commemorative Air Force. Without nonprofit institutions like these a lot of our flying heritage wouldn’t exist and this is my way of being able to give back so that way we can keep the planes flying.
If you’re interested in purchasing a copy all you have to do is click on the Arsenal of Democracy Flyover link above or the shopping cart symbol and that will direct you over to the purchasing form. For an autographed copy you will have to email me and there is an up-charge. If you have any questions feel free to email me.

Over the last five years, my family has gotten involved in the Aviation Business. We have had the great privilege of working with some truly amazing people and some amazing aircraft. Over that span of time we have met a number of great people and have heard their stories. Non of those stories compare to those from the men that flew these planes during WWII. Each Veteran has his own unique story and experience to tell. Almost a year ago I was down in Houston working with my Dad, the Kelby crew and the Texas Flying Legends Museum as they recorded the history of the planes and the people that flew 70 years ago in Europe and the Pacific. Tonight at 7pm EDT that video is being released to everyone. I highly recommend you take some time and watch what these brave men fought for how it changed our lives.
The Photopaths Photography Contest is still going on and it’s a great contest to get started in. There are some good prizes and some great judges, myself included. If you have that one image that you have always liked or that one image that has always stood out then maybe now is a good time to do something with it. Follow the Link to the site and read the contest rules and guidelines. The contest is going through September 26 so hurry up because time will go by fast!
If you enjoy Aviation, Photography, Cinematography or history then you don’t want to miss the premiere of the Kelbyone production of Warbirds and the men who flew them. Having been apart of the filming last year at Houston, I’m very excited to see what the crew was able to come up with. The movie goes live on Friday but you can watch the trailer over on Scott’s blog right now!
