When most people come to Mammoth, they usually spend their time on the ski slopes enjoying that fresh powder, taking in the magnificent sight that is the Sierra’s, or just being with friends and family. Well Dad and i spend our time photographing the planes that come in during the afternoon. Yes that’s right we stand by the side of the road with our 200-400’s pointed up at the planes, making the drivers going by stare and the pilots blink. It sounded like fun, even in the 9 degree weather.
It was so cold that the steam wouldn’t rise it stayed ground level and eventually surrounded the airport. Oddly enough the runway lights weren’t turned on for this guy but were on for the United flight that came in a bit later. The light wasn’t great at all, it flattened real quick at quarter till five but just barely a glow started on the peaks which made for a halfway decent background. It was a short, fun, little shoot and the best part didn’t have to buy airline tickets.
