We don’t get a lot of big warbirds up here in the north so when the CAF AZ boys told me at the Doolittle Reunion that they would be stopping by I made sure that it was on my calendar to go see them. This B-25J “Maid in the Shade” is usually housed down in Mesa, AZ but during the summer months this and their B-17G “Sentimental Journey” go on tour throughout the states and even up to Canada for public viewing and rides.
They couldn’t have picked a better time to be up here, great weather all week. As one of the pilots said, “compared to Phoenix this is cold, i need a jacket.” With the Sweat Pea Festival this past weekend there was lots of attention on the plane. The city okay’d a flyover of main street during the parade which woke everyone up. They ended up getting 2 full rides Saturday and Sunday which was great for them. I spent the mornings watching at the Yellowstone Jetcenter as they went about their routine. Annoyingly a haze came in on Sunday morning which covered the Bridger’s. It was still a ton of fun to see them up here.
